So I think fans and audiences will be pleasantly surprised by this. That's the feedback that we've had from people who have seen that episode. And I think that really translates on screen. And I think that also really comes from our connection as Zoë and Maddie. I think in the series there's this real mentorship between the two women, but in our adaptation, there is obviously the mentor. I think on the second day we met each other people have been like, "How many years have you guys been friends?" " We met on Wednesday." We didn't even have an audition together. Madeleine Madden: I will say, I think Zoë and I - when we first met - we just instantly connected. Is there anything you can tease about their relationship that we'll see later on in the season? Nynaeve and Egwene have such a strong dynamic in the books. So, really, what would a 20 or 22-year-old woman be feeling and thinking in these really extreme situations? I think the beauty is really in the writing and all I had to do was just immerse myself in the role. And, you know, just think about in adaption she's 20 or 22. All I had to do was just connect with her. So he was able to really flesh her out as a character. And you know, we have the novels, those amazing resources, at our fingertips.Īnd you know, Rafe, he's a huge fan of the series. I think, particularly for this, I definitely just focused on Egwene herself. So I think that is something that really makes The Wheel of Time stand alone in this genre.
#MADELEINE MADDEN SERIES#
Madeleine Madden: Well, I think what is so incredible about this series is even though The Wheel of Time is this epic, fantastical world, the characters are very real people. Was there any particular inspiration you looked to for the character? How much did you draw from the books? The characters are older than they are in the books and Egwene comes off as much more mature. It was amazing.Įgwene gets some changes from the book as well. So it was a lot of fun, a lot of blood, a lot of sweat, tears. And you know what, I actually really loved doing those actions sequences. But on the day I was with someone, fighting them at three o'clock in the morning and in a forest. I think in the edit we changed it a bit and we had some VFX help as well. Zoë Robins: Originally, the trollocs were people in these amazing suits that the crew has done an incredible job on. Screen Rant : Zoe, Nynaeve gets one of the biggest changes from the books in the first episode - she gets pulled off by the trollocs and you get that big confrontation.
